Killed in action Talana 20 October 1899.
Only six men of the regiment were killed at Talana. Originally buried at Adelaide Farm, scene of Colonel Moller’s surrender, but exhumed and re-buried at Dundee Town Cemetery. Grieve is one of three men commemorated on the cemetery memorial as unknown privates of the 18th Hussars.
Also commemorated on the regimental memorials in York Minster and at All Saints Church, Ladysmith. Served in ‘C’ Squadron. Medal and clasp confirmed on roll. Only 12 QSAs with single clasp Talana to the regiment.
