George Gill was born in  Bishopsteignton,
Devon on February 7, 1865. At the time of
the 1881 census we has shown as a 15 year
old labourer and was living with his parents
John and Sarah and  his younger siblings as
well as the son of an older sister.


He enlisted on his 18th birthday in 1883 and
served until August 10, 1898 at which time
he was discharged as invalided.

His record shows that he was married on
April 2nd 1894.

Gill was awarded the LSGC on June 2nd,
1895
